Rebel Day 2020 at Oaklawn Park
With most sporting events and leagues either cancelled or suspended, the sport of Kings continues on. While the stands might be empty, that will not distract our wonderful athletes. This an opportunity for this wonderful sport to shine while the world goes through a difficult time. The road to the Kentucky Derby continues through Arkansas today and 8 foes from different paths all collide.
Race 1
2-6-9
#2 Ten Buds faded to third last time out but draws the rail today. Watch for him to go straight to the lead and wire the field. #6 Thornish also ran third last time out. A step forward today would make him very competitive for the win today. #9 J's Little Man finished third last time out in the mud. We should see improvement today from that effort.
Race 2
6-3-7
#6 Ready Orb Not ran a solid second last time out coming off a layoff. Watch for her to improve today with the rust off. #3 Crystal Lake finished third in her last two efforts and could take a step forward today with this being her third start off a layoff. #7 Dulce Ride returns to the track after a year long layoff. She is showing that she is ready in the mornings for a good run today.
Race 3
8-2-10
#8 Young Bull broke his maiden last time out coming off a long layoff. Watch for him to take another step forward today. #2 Captain Don won in his first start off the layoff and followed that up with a solid second after stepping up in class. He is eligible to improve again with this being start three off the layoff. #10 Joan's Delight won gamely last time out coming off a layoff and could take a step forward today.
Race 4
1A-2-8
#1A Matrooh comes in hot having won two straight and has shown improvement in both. He is ready to go today. #2 Candy Carlos has run first or second in four straight including just missing by a neck in his return from a layoff. He also does well on an offtrack, 5 of 6 in the money. #8Codetowin won last time out in the mud and gets an offtrack again today.
Race 5
9-7-5
#9 Blackberry Wine is back in for maidens with a win as they disqualified him from purse money in January. He is the class of this field and should be the winner. #7 Overshadow has a trainer who wins 18% of the time with first time starters and 21% in Maiden Special Weight. He knows how to have them ready to go first time out. #5 What a Country has been putting in solid extended works to prepare for this race and looks ready to go.
Race 6
1-5-6
#1 Taishan gave two decent efforts in his graded stakes starts and now drops down into Allowance company. He will be very competitive in this spot. #5 Captain Bombastic comes in off a layoff but is sharp in the mornings. He also is moving from overnight stakes company to allowance. #6 Shackleford's Joy has improved in three straight since coming off the layoff. He showed he's sharp and ready with his last work.
Race 7
1-9-10
#1 Curate won decisively in his return to the track. He also has won over an offtrack. #9 Silver Ride ran a solid third in stakes company last time out and also runs well over an off track. #10 K Choice came up empty last time out but was showing good form before that. He also goes well over an offtrack.
Race 8
2-4-7
#2 Night Ops won last time out going 5 wide in the turns. He also is going into his third start off a layoff and eligible to improve more. #4 Bankit has run second by a head in two straight. Look for him to be in the mix again today. #7 Pioneer Spirit wont three straight before running fourth last time out. Watch for him to rebound into the money today.
Race 9
4-5-2
#4 Lady Apple and #5 Serengeti Empress ran excellent races against one another last time out with Lady Apple winning by half a length. Expect them to go 1-2 again today. #2 Mylady Curlin finished 4th in the same race having gone wider than the other two. She will be involved again today.
Race 10
1-4-6
#1 Nadal switches to a route for Bob Baffert for the first time today. He has been very impressive in his two victories. #4 Silver Prospector won impressively in the Southwest Stakes last time out. He will look to repeat that form and take home the win again today. #6 Three Technique was the last away last time out and rallied for second in the mud. A better start today could be the difference.
Race 11
12-10-5
#12 Tipsy Gal ran a solid third in her debut and has been very sharp in the mornings since. #10 Weekend Fun comes in off a layoff but has been very good in her morning works including a bullet on March 3. #5 Cynical Girl has been second in both of her starts and a step forward today could put her in the winner's circle.
